Practice for the girls and boys out for track and field at Greene County High School gets underway in earnest this week. Practice began last week for those not out for a winter sport, but boys’ head coach Dean Lansman told Raccoon Valley Radio that tomorrow (March 4) he expects all girls and boys to report to practice. “We expect to have around 40 boys, which is a good number” Coach Lansman said. Girls’ head coach Kelly Simpson expects to have a squad numbering around 25. Both teams have athletes with state meet experience returning with the girls’ team returning the most state qualifiers and some returning place winners.

Both teams expect to compete in two indoor meets before heading outside to compete later this month. The high school girls’ meet hosted in Ames by Iowa State University is on Monday, March 17, and the ISU boys’ meet is March 18. At least some Rams are expected to compete in Ames. It’s anticipated more of the Rams will be in the Buena Vista University indoor meet at Storm Lake on March 21.

The Greene County teams are scheduled to host their annual Early Bird meet on Monday, March 31 at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
