The high school boys’ basketball season is over for the Greene County Rams, but it never really ends for head Coach Jeramie Hinote. The Rams return 59 of the 62 points per game they scored en route to a 6-16 overall record. The 2013-14 campaign ended with Ballard (Huxley) topping Greene County 82-63 in Class 3A district basketball in Carroll on Feb. 24.
Leading scorer Trey Tucker, a freshman, averaged 19.7 points per game and scored 434 points, believed to be the most points scored by a ninth grade boy in a Jefferson-based basketball program. Tucker and most of his teammates from this season return next year. Coach Hinote said expectations will likely rise with so many players with varsity experience back, but he said that doesn’t mean the win total will automatically go up. “When you look at the teams we play, there are a lot of players returning. Our guys will need to put in a lot of work in the off-season to improve. It will take a lot of hard work.”
