basketball thru hoopWhile his senior season didn’t go quite as well as he was hoping it would, ADM senior point guard Logan Essy ended his career with a bang.

The Tigers’ leading scorer was in a total groove against the Harlan Cyclones this past Monday, scoring a career-high 32 points in ADM’s first-round district loss.  His head coach, Aaron Mager, was happy to see ADM’s leader dialed in and end his career on a high note.

“Man, he sure went out on a positive–32 points.  I don’t know what his shooting percentage was, it wasn’t too darn bad I know that–I don’t remember him missing very many shots and he was solid from the foul line.  So he just had an overall floor game, offensively especially, and defensively he was pretty solid too on Monday night… I tip my hat to him.  He’s been a good, solid point guard for the last two years as far as being able to score.  He’s had a nice career for us.”

Mager says he knew Essy could be a big-time contributor for the Tigers dating back to his point guard’s days in ADM’s middle school program.

“He was one of the those kids that you could tell early on, I remember seeing him back in camp back when he would have been probably in 6th or 7th-grade, and you could tell he had a skill set and a knack for handling the basketball.  Then his body style, he can take some of the bumping and the punishment as you drive to the paint… you could tell that way back when.  He’s always been kind of a stout guy, and (he’s) had that knack for a hesitation and then a change of speed and direction that allowed him to get into the interior of a defense–that never changed.  Last year, he really got his feet wet and then started all year… he just kept getting better and better.”

In his two years at the varsity level for the Tigers, Essy scored 581 total points and dished out nearly 120 assists.

While all-conference selections have not been officially announced, Coach Mager says he does expect Essy to garner either a first or second-team selection this season.
