Color Out Cancer 5K run/walk isn’t your typical race.  It is a new event for the Greene County Relay for Life.

Committee member Libby Towers says each participant will receive a white t-shirt and they will learn about different kinds of cancer on the day of the community event on Saturday, April 26th.  She explains other details of the race.

“There will be five color stations.  It will be similar to the popular color runs that you see around, just with a little more of a local flare I guess.  We’re going to tie in the colors are each station into the different colors that represent different types of cancer.  There will be information along the route kind of explaining what each color represents.”

She points out that it is a non-competitive, untimed event with their main focus being to educate people about different types of cancer.  The colors that participants will be hit with are safe, non-toxic and completely washable materials.

Early registration is encouraged by April 1st for $20 for anyone 13 years or older and $10 for anyone 12 years and younger.  After that, prices go up to $25 and $15 respectively.  All proceeds will go to Greene County Relay for Life.

On Saturday, April 26th at 9:30am will be check-in with the race to follow and the route is exactly the same as the 5K route for Bell Tower Festival’s Ding Dong Dash.  Each participant will also receive a bag of goodies which includes a noon meal ticket for the barbecue.

Anyone with questions can call the Greene County Community Center at 386-3412.
