The Greene County Supervisors met briefly yesterday.
The Board approved the county treasurer’s report for January of $4,923,616.05 for investments and 318 driver’s licenses were issued last month.
The Board had a short discussion with county engineer Wade Weiss about the Mahanay Bell Tower. Vice-Chair Guy Richardson said they are having a meeting with a representative from Structural Engineers from Marshalltown to talk about the proposed project of replacing the current bell frames that are on top of the bell tower to fit all 48 bells and the logistics with that.
Chair of the Board John Muir talks about where the Board will go from here about making the improvements to the bell tower but that no construction will be done soon.
“The numbers that we’ve looked at so far are lower than what we were expecting. We have to work out the details between the engineering firm and the bell company that’s building the superstructure to go up there and us and the (Bell Tower) Foundation. But the numbers we’ve seen so far are lower than what we were expecting.”
Weiss also pointed out that they’re sand and salt reserves to use on snow and ice covered roads are very low due to the widespread winter season but that the crews did a great job handling the blizzard-like conditions on Thursday’s winter storm.
