wrestlingThe ADM wrestling team had three guys competing in the 2014 state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines this past weekend, and all three ended their season as place winners.

Zach Johnston, who was trying to become the Tigers’ first state wrestling champ since 1975, got all the way to the title match at 152 pounds before losing to Davenport Assumption’s Danny Bush.  Then ADM had a seventh and eighth place finish from Trevor Harsh and Nathan Heath, at the 132-pound and heavyweight weight classes respectively.

All-in-all, head coach Justin Schmauss says it was a pretty darned good weekend.

“It was a great tournament for those guys.  I’m more than satisfied, more than happy with how they turned out and ended the year on a strong note.  It was a real fun experience for coaches, the wrestlers and the fans… everybody was just really pleased and happy with the tournament.  Now I’m really, really excited about what our future is going to bring next year.”

Johnston, Harsh and Heath will all be back to anchor next year’s team–one that will have markedly higher expectations under Coach Schmauss.  ADM will actually return nearly every starter in what will be the second season under Schmauss.  Theron Dollens, Darold Baker and Bailey Bettazza are the lone starters departing.
