Greene County head wrestling coach Mark Sawhill feels like the four wrestlers that will be in action at the state tournament in Des Moines are ready to go and capable of winning matches at Wells Fargo Arena. Unlike most years when the Rams have qualified three or more individuals for a state meet, there usually has been one or two that were just happy to be there. Coach Sawhill said that’s not the case this year. “All four of these guys aren’t satisfied with just making it. They all want to be place winners and all are very capable of doing that. Of course, everybody else wants to make the podium, too, so we know it won’t be easy.”
Senior Dylan Forkner at 126 lbs. is 37-4 and ranked eighth in Class 2A. Junior Jordan Challen is 36-6 and was a top 12 finisher in 2013. Sophomore Tommy Bradshaw is ranked ninth at 138 after qualifying for the Missouri state tournament as a freshman at 145, and senior Jeremy Scheuermann at 152 lbs. placed eighth at state a season ago at 145. He is ranked tenth.
Class 2A starts things off this morning at 9 o’clock. The Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have “live” play-by-play of 29 area wrestlers in 1A and 2A including the quartet from Greene County.
