jefferson welcomeJefferson area residents are encouraged to come to an informational luncheon with the Jefferson Tree Committee later this week.

ISU Greene County Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says the committee meets every third Friday of the month at the extension office in Jefferson.

He explains that the main goal of the organization is to look at public places around the City to plant trees to improve the City’s landscape.  Cooley talks about another topic that the committee currently discussing.

“Specifically, we will be looking at Ash tree planting as well, working with the City employees, and making that timeline happen as we look at the very strong possibility of needing to eliminate most of the Ash trees in the City due to the Ash Borer.”

He adds that a free lunch will be provided at their regular meeting this Friday, February 21st at noon at the extension office for those interested in learning more about the organization.

Pre-registration is encouraged by Thursday.  Call the extension office at 386-2138 for more information.
