Two Perry High School students are now state large group speech contest champions.

Senior Samantha Sweet and sophomore Kat Leesley received a 1 rating in the ensemble acting category at the state competition in Ankeny this past weekend. They also performed their winning piece “The Best Escape” for the school board at their meeting Monday.

Perry had three other groups compete at state after excelling at the district contest in Perry earlier this season.

The ensemble acting group of Chloe Long, Maidson Thompson and Gabi Huntington received a 2 rating for their piece “Mint Julep”.

Long, Thompson, Sweet and Taylor Weiland also competed in the reader’s theater contest and received a 2 rating for “Once Upon A Time”.

And Leesley, Rebeca Dobson and Ana Funez also received a 2 rating at state for their group improvisation performance.
