Guthrie Center SignThe Guthrie Center Chamber of Commerce met yesterday for its February session.

At the beginning of the meeting, members were introduced to three of the town’s new Main Street Iowa Partners.  Michael Wagler, Darlene Strachan and Jim Engle each addressed the Chamber to express excitement for their organization’s new relationship with Guthrie Center.  Wagler in particular voiced his eagerness in developing the new partnership, saying “Main Street cannot happen without local partners… it takes an entire community to make it work,” and he looks forward to meeting people in town that share that same passion.

Also during yesterday’s meeting, President Lonnie Carrick and Secretary Becky Benton shared the idea that the Chamber restructure some of its committees this year.  Benton feels it would be nice to switch things up given all the changes going on in Guthrie Center.

Discussion then ensued amongst Chamber members about possibly starting a new Guthrie Center summer party or street festival that would be a way to celebrate the town.  Possible dates for such a celebration and other committee ideas will be discussed further during the Chamber’s next meeting.

That meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 11th at the Extension & Outreach Office.
