Greene County head wrestling coach Mark Sawhill was asked if there was a little disappointment with a fourth place finish in the Feb. 8 Class 2A Sectional tournament in Perry and advancing seven of the 11 entrants from the Sectional to the Feb. 15 District in Atlantic. “Definitely. Maybe we were a little greedy, but we hoped to get one or two more through and hoped for a higher team finish. But then I woke up Sunday morning realizing we had seven guys with a chance to get to the State tournament and thought that was pretty good.” The coach is hoping all seven are at their peak on Saturday.

Sectional champions for the Rams were Dylan Forkner (126), Jordan Challen (132), Tommy Bradshaw (138), and Tray Binkley (182). Finishing second and also advancing were Jacob Challen (120), Jeremy Scheuermann (152), and Rene’ Guzman (285).

The top two finishers in Atlantic in each weight class advance to the Feb. 20-22 State Tournament in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena. Raccoon Valley Radio will have mid-afternoon and late afternoon reports on the progress of ADM, Greene County, and Perry wrestlers at their respective district tournaments this Saturday, then we’ll have play-byplay coverage at the State tourney of area wrestlers from Wells Fargo Arena.
