The children’s department at the Jefferson Public Library continues to have a busy February for youth to get involved.
Children’s Librarian Terri Clark says this month, they continue with Ready Reader’s Story Time for children three-to-six years old. This program is from 10-11am every Wednesday this month and it involves reading, crafts, games and other entertainment for youth to interact with. Clark just asks that a parent or guardian of each child must remain in the library while the program is going on.
Clark talks about why it’s so important to involve young people in reading at a very early age.
“I think reading is one of the most important skills that we learn as children. It follows us throughout our life and we need it in everything we do. We are especially excited when the children come in at an early age.”
Another popular monthly event is the “Make It and Take It” craft days which are every Wednesday this month from 1-4pm. Everyone is welcome to participate in this program with crafts and activities that only last for 15 minutes. It is a come and go program adds Clark.
Other ongoing February activities in the children’s department includes a candy guessing jar with whoever guesses right will win a prize at the end of the month and a special heart is hiding in the children’s department and if you find it, you will also win a prize.
