At this week’s Greene County Supervisors meeting, a resolution was passed to help complete a second log cabin at Spring Lake Park near Grand Junction.
County Conservation Director Dan Towers told Raccoon Valley Radio that the second cabin will be exactly like the first one that opened last summer and was used 75 times until it closed for the year at the end of October.
The cabins will feature a double loft layout with four double bed mattresses, a full kitchenette, a bathroom with a toilet and sink but no shower.
He talks about how much easier it should be to finish building the second cabin.
“We’ve got the second one enclosed this winter and we’ve got the whole winter now to work on it. Plus, we have the advantage of having done one so we know what works and what doesn’t work, so the second one should go much smoother.”
The Supervisors transferred $5,000 from the Local Option Sales and Services Tax, $20,000 from bike trail receipts to the Bike Trail Fund and $10,000 from its General Fund to the Conservation Reserve Fund to finish paying for the completion of the second cabin which Towers hopes to have ready by May 1st for the public to use both cabins.
The total amount for each cabin is estimated between $50,000 and $60,000 to build.
