The Greene County High School jazz band will have one last chance to qualify for the Iowa Jazz Championships in Des Moines this week.
Director Becky Greiner says they will compete at the Simpson College Jazz Festival on Friday. She points out that they will be competing in Class 3A and need to win the contest in order to have a guaranteed spot at IJC in April.
She comments that they came in second place in the Triton Jazz Festival at Iowa Central Community College last Thursday and that Simpson College is their last qualifier. Greiner states that she would like to qualify for IJC this year, but that no matter what happens, she’s proud of the work her students have done.
“I tell you what this band it pretty young and they have come a long, long way from last year to this year. So I could not be more pleased with how they’ve done throughout the whole school year.”
Most recently, they received a I-rating from the State Jazz Festival held at the high school auditorium on Monday.
According to Simpson College’s schedule, Greene County is set to perform at 1:30pm on Friday and will compete against other Class 3A schools including Dallas Center Grimes, Creston, Carlisle, Nevada, Centerville, Winterset and Keokuk.
