Greene County didn’t let a slow start bother them on Tuesday night in Colfax and the Rams went on to defeat Colfax-Mingo 65-47 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference boys’ basketball. Coach Jeramie Hinote’s Rams improved to 5-7 overall and 4-7 in the conference by winning for the fourth time in the last five games. C-M fell to 0-11 overall and 0-10 in the league. The contest was broadcast on KG98.
The Tigerhawks started the game on fire as they made eight of first 11 shots from the floor, including a three-pointer, and led 17-8 midway through the opening period. A 15-4 second period allowed the Rams to lead 25-21 at halftime and the lead grew to as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Trey Tucker continued his hot scoring touch with 28 points, his seventh straight game with 20 or more. Landon Braun was next with nine points, followed by eight from Max Neese and seven each by Sico Boateng and Mitchell Gorsuch.
Colin Lourens had 14 points for C-M with 12 from Jared Myers.
These teams are the youngest in the conference. C-M has 10 sophomores on its roster while Greene County starts a freshman, two sophomores and two juniors.
Greene County travels to Baxter on Friday night to face CMB, a team the Rams lost to last month in Jefferson. The Raiders are enjoying their best season in years at 10-3. Coverage of the girl/boy doubleheader on KG98 begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys’ contest to follow.
