Parents and children who are looking for a book to borrow from the Perry Public Library will now be able to find an appropriate selection more easily.
Children’s librarian Suzanne Kestel is implementing new “readers” for books in the children’s section to help categorize them by skill level.
She says she got the idea from a class she attended and she’s tweaked it to work for the Perry library.
“When a parent comes in and thinks “Okay, what book is going to be just right for my child?” Whether they’re just learning to read or they’ve started to read a little bit of a chapter book, then they can go over to the readers as a guideline” says Kestel.
She says it’s a relatively simple system for parents and kids to understand.
“The charts will be up there. Look for which one your child is and what reading level they are, then look for that colored sticker on the spine. If they have any questions they’re welcome to talk to me but I just wanted to do that, hopefully that will help parents kind of pick out books for their beginner readers.”
