The ADM boys basketball team faces off against the 7th-ranked Dallas Center Grimes Mustangs tonight, but thankfully for the Tigers, they won’t be taking on such a formidable opponent completely cold coming out of winter break.
ADM was able to get in some game action this past Tuesday against Class 4-A foes Southeast Polk and Des Moines Roosevelt when the teams convened in Pleasant Hill for a round of scrimmages.
Head coach Aaron Mager says he saw some positives in his team’s performance during the scrimmages, but there is a lot they’ll have to be better at tonight in order to knock off DC-G.
Here is the head coach reflecting on what he saw from his Tigers on Tuesday.
“Offensively, once in a while we just tried to play helter skelter rather than really work on getting the ball to our key spots and executing our offense. Those are areas that we need to continue to improve… just being more disciplined and doing your job. You’ve got a job to do no matter what is going on at each prescribed moment and sometimes we deviate from that and start doing our own thing. As soon as that happens–you’ve got four guys doing their job and one guy that’s not–that’s when you break down.”
ADM can ill-afford those breakdowns against a team with as much quality as DC-G. Mager knows it will take a mistake-free four quarters for his club to stay competitive with the Mustangs, who’s only loss on the season came against Class 4-A Southeast Polk.
In the first contest between ADM and DC-G, the Tigers trailed by just two at halftime before the Mustangs ran away with things in the second half. DC-G took game one by a score of 68-44.
See if the Tigers can avenge that loss with a big-time road win tonight. The boys will tip 15 minutes following the conclusion of the girls’ contest, which begins at 6pm on K107.
