More progress was made this week for Greene County to become the leading county in the state for Governor Terry Branstad’s Home Base Iowa Initiative.
One of the requirements to become a Home Base Iowa Community is to have resolutions of support from local government bodies. Earlier this month, the City of Jefferson was the first to pass a resolution in the county and this week, the county supervisors did the same.
Supervisor Chair John Muir explains why he thought it was a good decision for the Board to get behind an idea like this to bring veterans to Iowa for jobs.
“It’s all positive. Everything to come out of it will be good for the county, for the veterans, for the community. Looking down the road with the kind of job opportunities we’re going to have coming up, we need to look at ways to draw more people in and this is a great base of people. Yeah, I think its just a natural for us to sign on and see where we can end up with it.”
Another area county economic development director Ken Paxton says needs to have major employers willing to become Home Base Iowa Businesses, which he says they’ve already accomplished last week.
He hopes to turn in all the necessary paperwork to the governor by the end of the year to stay ahead of all the other applicants.
