Coming off its second straight win, the ADM boys’ basketball team will take on Raccoon River Conference opponent Carroll tonight in the second game of a girls/boys varsity doubleheader.
The Carroll boys are coming off an 18-4 season that ended a game shy of the state tournament, and head coach Chris Molinsky returns his top three scorers from a year ago.
Off to a 2-0 start to this season against some tough competition, Carroll will provide ADM with a great test tonight. The boys in orange and white beat ADM twice last season, but Molinsky remembers his team really struggling when it visited town.
“We were very fortunate to get a victory down at Adel. They played us really tough… they had an opportunity to tie the game or win the game in regulation, and one of their guys missed a short jump shot at the horn that would have sent us into overtime I believe. We were lucky to get out last year with that (win), so we look forward to getting back down there and hopefully redeeming ourselves a little bit.”
For Carroll, the offense revolves around junior Addison Ross, who is averaging 18.5 points per game to this point. He is that proverbial straw that stirs the drink, and the guy Molinsky is counting on to help Carroll reach its season expectations.
“We’ve got some lofty goals for our guys, certainly repeating as conference champs would be our first and foremost goal. We know we’re going to have some stiff competition, we’ve got a large target on our back after last year (because) we were kind of an unknown.”
Tonight’s game will tip-off about 15 minutes following the conclusion of the girls’ contest, which begins at 6pm on K107.
A reminder to ADM boys’ basketball fans, the Tigers play Creston tomorrow evening at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
