A reminder to area basketball fans that tomorrow night in Stuart is West Central Valley’s “Shooting for the Cure” fundraiser during the girls and boys varsity doubleheader.
West Central Valley has been selling special pink shirts for the “Pink Night” event for the past few weeks, and through t-shirt sales and activities during the game, athletic director Tod Broman says the fundraising effort typically reels in around $700 each year.
Broman points out one specific and particularly poignant activity that will take place tomorrow.
“This Friday, they’re going to have the 48-second bucket run, where cheerleaders have 48 seconds to go through the crowd and through the gym to collect as much money as possible because every 48 seconds a woman dies of breast cancer.”
Both West Central Valley fans and Panorama fans are encouraged to wear pink shirts in support of the evening’s festivities tomorrow whether you’ve purchased a t-shirt specifically for the event or not.
Broman says West Central Valley’s FFA and FCCLA members will be sponsoring a pie auction in between the conclusion of the girls’ game and the beginning of the boys’ game to raise additional funds.
All proceeds from tomorrow’s event will be donated to the Guthrie County chapter of the Relay for Life Foundation.
