One person suffered injuries after running into a brick pillar in Jefferson.
Police Chief Dave Morlan says around 11:30am on Tuesday, 95 year-old Anna Eckhardt of Jefferson was trying to back out of a parking stall in the middle of the 100 block of North Wilson Street when she accidentally put her 1997 Ford Club Wagon van in drive and hit a brick pillar that is owned by the City.
Morlan states that Eckhardt was taken to the Greene County Medical Center by county emergency medical services due to pain in her knee, chest and shoulder. The report shows that her airbag went off but it was unclear whether or not she was wearing her seatbelt. The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time.
Morlan points out that Eckhardt’s vehicle sustained an estimated $3,000 in damages and caused another $1,000 in damage to the City’s brick pillar. She was cited for failure to maintain control.
Morlan adds that only a few times has a situation like that happened in the downtown area with the most recent being an incident that happened at Bunker’s Dunkers where an operated vehicle went through their storefront. This time, Morlan notes, the brick pillar stopped the vehicle from hitting a storefront.
