dc conservationWe might not have snow on the ground yet but it’s likely safe to assume it’s coming.

The Dallas County Conservation Board is hosting their Quinzee Building program once again this winter.  Quinzees are a cross between an igloo and a snow cave.  Basically they are simple shelters made by hallowing out a big pile of snow.

These shelters are ideal when snow conditions make it hard to build an igloo or when there isn’t enough deep, packed snow for a cave.

Believe it or not, quinzees, if built right, are warmer than a tent and fun to build.

This is an on-call program since it’s hard to know when there will be enough snow to make one.

Anyone interested in participating in the free program can put their name on the contact list by calling 465-3577.
