Three games into the 2013-14 campaign, head coach Brett Watson’s ADM girls basketball team sits at 1-2, and while it isn’t the fast start he was hoping for, he’s more than encouraged with his girls’ play early on.
Here is Watson talking about his team’s painfully close loss to the rival DC-G Mustangs on Tuesday.
“Again, (after) watching film, I’m so proud of our girls. They fought tooth and nail with the No. 4 team in Class 4-A, and they fought and fought and fought. Our goal at the beginning of the year was to get better everyday… if you look at that goal, we accomplished that. You know the wins and losses, yeah we didn’t accomplish the win that we wanted to get but our goal has always been to get better, and I think we got better in a lot of the areas we’ve been focusing on so that was very pleasant to see.”
The Tigers will have another great opportunity to work on areas of needed improvement such as taking care of the basketball and free throw shooting tomorrow night as another ranked opponent visits Adel.
The Winterset Huskies, ranked 11th in Class 4-A, are led by UNI recruit Mariah Criswell, who is averaging over 25 points per game in her team’s 3-0 start.
Expect the tenacious Brianna Mueller to be matched up with Criswell as ADM tries to slow the Huskies’ potent offensive attack.
