Greene County began the 2013-14 high school wrestling season in Ogden on Tuesday night and split a pair of non-conference dual meets. The Rams were 60-18 winners over Van Meter/Earlham before losing to Ogden 36-24.
Two of the weight classes in the dual between the Rams and Ogden featured wrestlers from the 2013 State tournament and Greene County won both. Jordan Challen won 6-4 over Kolby Munson at 132 lbs. and Jeremy Scheuermann was a 4-1 victor over Austin Lentz at 160. Scheuermann expects to be at 145 lbs. later in the season. In another match featuring accomplished wrestlers, three-time state meet place winner Kyler Kiner was a 3-2 winner over the Rams’ Dylan Forkner at 126 lbs. Kiner starts this season ranked second in Class 1A while Forkner is unranked, although he was 28-4 last season.
2013 Missouri State qualifier Tommy Bradshaw went 2-0 for the Rams at 145 lbs. with a pair of first period falls. Rene’ Guzman joined Bradshaw, Challen, and Forkner as Rams with 2-0 records to start the season. Kevin Krieger made a successful return to the mat in his first match since he was in ninth grade after back problems forced the senior to miss all of the past two seasons. He won by fall vs. Van Meter/Earlham, but lost by injury default to Henry Haglund of Ogden at 170.
Another non-conference double dual on the road takes place tomorrow night. The Rams meet Carroll High and Winterset from the Raccoon River Conference at Carroll High on Thursday.
