In the first boys/girls varsity doubleheader of the season for the ADM basketball teams last night, both squads came out on the losing end against their rivals from Dallas Center-Grimes.
The ADM girls battled with the 4th-ranked Mustangs down to the wire before ultimately falling 53-49 in their third game of the season. With the loss, the Tigers move to 1-2 on the year.
Coach Brett Watson’s crew led 27-25 at halftime, but the Mustangs used a 15-8 third quarter scoring run to gain control of the contest.
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers were actually able to knot things up at 44-44 with just over four minutes to play, but DC-G got two late free throws each from Dani Heritage and Alli O’Brien to put the game out of reach in the final moments.
Freshman Sydney Bertman led ADM in scoring for the second consecutive game–her 14 points in the contest actually led all scorers. Her sister Madi chipped in 11 for the Tigers.
Over on the boys side, ADM put together a great first-half performance to keep the score close, but DC-G turned up the pressure in the late third and early fourth quarters to pull away.
The Mustangs led by just two points at the half, but ended the game with a 24-point margin of victory… 68-44 was your final score. DC-G’s Nick Drucker led all scorers in the boys’ contest with 20. Jacob Hardy led your Tigers in the scoring department–after scoring just five points at the varsity level all of last season, he had 10 last night.
Next up for both the boys and girls is a varsity doubleheader this Friday against Winterset. Those games will be in Adel and on our K107 airwaves, with pregame for the girls’ game beginning at 5:45.
