The Greene County girls and Roland-Story (Story City) boys were Heart of Iowa Activities Conference winners in Jefferson at the middle school gym on Tuesday night. Both games of the twin bill were broadcast on KG98. The Rams improved to 2-0 on the season and in the HOIAC with a 46-32 girls’ victory that dropped the Norsemen to 1-1 overall and in conference play. The R-S boys were 70-56 winners over Greene County to improve to 1-0 in the league and 1-1 overall. The Rams were playing their first boys’ game of the season.

Junior Kayla Mobley had 18 points for Greene County and 1o of the 11 Rams scored at least one point. Greene County led by 12 late in the first half, but R-S made it a seven point game at 25-18 at intermission. The Rams built the lead to as many as 18 points with 4:36 to play at 45-28. Greene County had 13 turnovers and made 20 of 63 shots from the floor. R-S had 16 turnovers and was held to 12 of 55 shooting for the game.

The R-S boys’ led by 16 in the second quarter and held a 31-16 lead at the half. Greene County out scored the Norsemen 40-39 in the second half, but the closest the Rams could get in the second half was nine points. Three R-S players scored 15 or more points led by senior Zach Hovick who had 15 of his game-high 19 in the second half. John Barclay came off the bench to make five threes for 15 points and Ben Clark also scored 15. Junior Riah Nelsen had 18 for the Rams with 12 by Tyler Beger, 10 by Landon Braun, and eight points each from Max Neese and Trey Tucker. Only Braun had started a varsity game previously and Beger, Neese and Tucker made their varsity debuts.

The varsity teams for Greene County go on the road for the first time this season when they meet the PCM teams in Monroe on Friday night. Coverage on KG98 begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and boys to follow.
