With Veteran’s Day marked as a day to say thank you to those who served our country in the military and defend our rights during wartime, Greene County High School will be honoring several area veterans with a program on Monday.
GCHS Student Council Advisor Deb Marquardt says this year, they’ve personally invited over 100 area veterans to the high school in Jefferson for a breakfast and all-school program on Monday morning.
She talks about how the students will honor the veterans during the 30-minute program.
“With a little slideshow, the band is going to play a couple of patriotic songs, an all-state singer is going to sing ‘America’ and we have one speaker from a student council member.”
Marquardt describes the importance Veteran’s Day should have with today’s students.
“I just don’t think we pay enough recognition to the veterans and I think they’re okay with being silent and not having a lot of recognition. But I think the high school kids need to know a little more about the importance ofthat day.”
The program will take place at 8:30am in the high school auditorium for all students and the 100-invited area veterans.
