The 2013 postseason for high school sports in Iowa is underway. Volleyball programs in the smaller classes have begun regional tournament play and tomorrow will see cross-country state qualifying meets around the state. High school football and swimming will begin the postseason next week.
Greene County will send its boys and girls cross-country team to the par three golf course at Lake Panorama near Panora tomorrow for Class 2A state qualifying races. Coach Kelly Simpson hopes his girls’ squad will be in the thick of the team race. The Rams are led by 2012 individual state qualifier Allison Higgins. The senior is ranked ninth in 2A by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. The top three teams for girls and boys and top 10 male and female individuals advance to the Nov. 2 state meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park.
The volleyball team from Greene County has completed its regular season and opens Class 3A regional play in Stuart on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. vs. West Central Valley. That match will be broadcast on KG98.
The Greene County football team finishes the regular season on Friday night in Ida Grove at 7 p.m. with coverage at 6 p.m. on KG98. The Rams could finish as high as second place in Class 2A District 8, but to accomplish that, the team needs to win on Friday night.
