Jefferson Fire Department has a busy night last night with two fires in town.
Greene County Chief Deputy Jack Williams who also serves on Jefferson’s Volunteer Fire Department says the first fire happened at the Greene County School’s bus barn on the fairgrounds at 8:45pm.
He states that when they arrived, one bus was fully engulfed and when the flames were put out, they determined the fire wasn’t naturally caused. The bus is a total loss.
Chief Deputy Williams then says just three hours later, at 11:45pm, a four-story structure was on fire at 704 North Elm Street, just west of the overpass. It was mainly a storage concrete building with property damage belonging to the building owner.
He points out that there were no injuries in either fire and the State Fire Marshall’s Office will be in Jefferson to investigate both fires. The preliminary causes are suspected to be arson-related.
