Greene County head football coach Dean Lansman has said all season that if the players believed in the coaching staff, worked hard, and  improved throughout the season, good things could come at the end. Following an 0-3 start, the Rams have won three games in a row and are now 4-4 overall and 3-2 in Class 2A District 8 with just one game left in the regular season. Among those “good things” are a possible second place finish in the district if the Rams win at Ida Grove on Oct. 25 vs. OABCIG and if undefeated Kuemper Catholic defeats Clarinda. Coach Lansman told Raccoon Valley Radio following the 55-8 victory Oct. 18 vs. Clarinda Academy the Rams were sitting right where they want to be.

Heading into the final week of the regular season the Knights are 5-0 in district play with Clarinda at 4-1, and the Rams at 3-2. Greene County defeated Clarinda in Page County 28-25 on Oct. 11, so if both the Rams and Cardinals finish 4-2 in the district, it would be Greene County getting the number two seed heading into the postseason. OABCIG, Red Oak, and Shenandoah are all 2-3 in the district and Clarinda Academy has finished district play at 0-6. A victory by OABCIG on Friday puts the third and fourth playoff spots from the district up in the air with the possibility of the 13-point differential tie-breaker being used. That was the case in 2012 when Greene County, Red Oak, and Shenandoah were all 3-3 in the district and tied for the last two spots. The Rams were third based on the tie-breaker with RO fourth, and Shenandoah being left out.

Coverage of Greene County and OABCIG begins Friday at 6 p.m. on KG98 with kickoff at 7 p.m.
