October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all adults are reminded of the importance of preventative screenings.
Dallas County Hospital certified mammographer Kim Schlitchte say beyond home breast exams it’s crucial women get their annual mammogram.
“Everybody over the age of 35 should have a screening mammogram, it’s very important because digital mammography can detect things in the breast at a very smaller scale than what you can see. Obviously, the smaller we find things, the more likely we’re able to treat them and cure them” says Schlitchte.
Along with taking care of yourself, Schlitchte recommends reminding the women in your life to get themselves check out as well.
“Our goal is to get as many women in to get a mammogram as possible. So October is just a great month to remind people to come in. Even if you don’t need your mammogram, check wish your mom, your sister, your grandmother and see if they’ve had theirs done and encourage them to give us a call to schedule for their mammogram.”
