The Dallas County Hospital is offering area seniors a chance to find out the latest about Medicare at a checkup event next month.
Senior Health Insurance Information Program counselors will be available to help residents compare Medicare Part D plans for 2014.
Sue Whittmack with the Iowa Insurance Division explains how the checkups work.
“We have volunteers throughout Iowa that sit down with anyone on Medicare, anyone becoming eligible for medicare, to help them understand about Medicare to navigate all of their options. It’s a confidential, free program that’s funded partially by the state of Iowa thanks to our great insurance commissioner, which helps be a part of the insurance division and then for our Governor’s support, that just helps our program expand and more people to understand the program and know about us” says Whittmack.
The Medicare open enrollment program goes until December 7th and all individuals on Medicare need to attend a checkup to decide what plans they want for 2014.
The Dallas County Hospital event takes place November 11th from 9am-4pm. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 725-2907.
