The shelter’s Renee Smith says she has taken in the dogs after an unidentified woman dumped them out of her truck on Wednesday evening on a rural, gravel road near Diamondhead Lake in Guthrie County.

Smith says she received a call from a local resident whose daughter was getting off a bus after school on Wednesday, when she saw a woman abandon her chihuahua and a retriever mix before driving quickly away.

Smith calls the incident disappointing and frustrating, and one that unfortunately happens all too often.

“Yeah, it’s funny how even as long as I’ve been doing this, it still surprises me when we hear of people dumping dogs.  It just–every time it makes you angrier and angrier.  It happens all the time, that’s what so surprising.  We (P.E.T.S.) are just concerned about the dog and getting the dog healthy and getting the dog to a safe place, but it makes you angry that somebody else is dumping all of their problems off on you without any consideration at all.”

Smith says the shelter has no idea where they came from or who dumped them, but they would like anyone with information about the situation to get in contact them so that the Sheriff’s Office can get involved.

If anybody has questions or would like to help P.E.T.S. out during this time, contact the shelter at 641-757-9570.
