The one absentee ballot never came in during the canvass of votes today so that means hee official count remains the same on the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy measure as a tie at 330 yes versus no votes.
Since it didn’t pass by a simple majority of 50% plus one from both the Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene school districts, a petition has been filled out and submitted by the Greene County School District to the County Auditor’s office to request a recount.
According to the auditor’s office, the district has fulfilled the requirements of getting at least ten signatures to have a recount. The County Board of Supervisors will formally act on the request at it’s normal meeting on Monday to direct the auditor to have the recount.
Superintendent Tim Christensen says if after the recount is completed and the PPEL still doesn’t pass, then the Greene County School Board will go through the process to put it back up for another vote in February. If it passes following the recount, then the PPEL would go into effect on July 1, 2014 but people won’t have to start paying for it until 2015.
