The City of Adel has plans to revitalize their historic downtown and will have the assistance of some state funds while they do it.
The City was awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
The contract with the IEDA lasts until July 31st 2016. The grant monies will be used to complete a comprehensive façade improvement project that includes a city and private match, bringing the total project cost to nearly $1 million.
A total of 20 downtown businesses have agreed to participate in the project.
After roughly 6 months of planning, the construction work is expected to begin next spring.
