The Greene County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting and event at the Rippey United Methodist Church this Friday.
This time the program is about Greene County’s involvement in the Civil War.
Member Chuck Offenburger says the presentation will be done by Bill Burkett of Jefferson and Ron Toliver of Churdan. He points out that Burkett’s great-grandfather served on the Confederate side and was at the battle of Vicksburg and Toliver’s great-granduncle served on the Union side.
They will tell various stories and incidents of how Greene County became involved in the Civil War and different people who served from the county during that time. Plus, there will civil war reenactors at the event.
A meal will be served at noon for a small price with the program to start at 1pm. Following the program will be a meeting for the historical society members. Those interested in the meal may find a list of contacts on our website at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
