The two most likely topics tonight when Greene County and Perry meet tonight in the high school football season opening game for both teams are the heat and the Cowbell. Players, coaches and fans on both sides will be hot, but the winning team may not feel the heat quite so much once they get their hands on a prize donated by the Rotary Clubs of Jefferson and Perry in 1928. The winning team keeps the bell for the next year before it appears again, usually with the cheerleaders from the school that won the previous years’ game. Perry won 27-7 in Jefferson in 2012, but the Rams hold at 53-27-2 advantage since the Cowbell was introduced.
Tonight’s game can be heard on both KDLS 1310 AM and KGRA 98.9 FM with coverage at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 90s at kickoff. Fans are encouraged to hydrate throughout the day today and wear light clothing to the game. Moist towels may also help keep fans cool.
