Today is the day, folks. The time for the long-awaited 155th Guthrie County Fair has finally arrived.
Fair Board President C.W. Thomas says the fair has a long time tradition and immense popularity in the area.
“We have been fortunate to get Labor Day Weekend nitched up out of the busy schedule of everybody around us. We’re the last county fair in the area, we’re not on top of anybody, we’re not competing with everybody else’s audience. And, it’s kinda the last hoorah before school really settles in.”
A reminder to fairgoers, today is free admittance inside the fair gates.
Much of the day’s activity involves 4-H and FFA exhibit competitions, including livestock judging and the dog show at 6pm.
Capping off the night is the Bill Riley Talent Show at 7pm in the Guthrie Center High School Auditorium. Thomas says it is the first talent show in the state that qualifies individuals for the 2014 State Fair talent show competition, which began back in 1959.
