ADM volleyball played in its first matches of the season on Tuesday night, going 3-2 in a tournament at Newton High School.
ADM struggled in its first match against Class 5-A Dowling Catholic of West Des Moines, but rebounded to win three of its next four matches against Carlisle, Oskaloosa and Lynnville-Sully.
ADM’s other loss came at the hands of Newton, losing two close games 21-17 and 22-20.
Head coach Mary Beth Scott says she was encouraged with her team’s play, especially as they battle through some early season injuries.
“I, I was pleased. Again, it takes time. As I always tell them, it’s about how we progress. Ultimately, we’re just trying to improve each day, get better as a team. I’m focused on how we do in conference, how we do in October, when things really start to matter.”
ADM hopes to get back two key players who were held out of Tuesday’s matches. Junior middle hitter Kari Dufoe sprained her ankle Monday and is out indefinitely. The team is also limiting the playing time of last year’s third-team all-state performer Allison Gottschalk, who sustained a concussion in the spring.
The Tigers will play in three tournaments next week. Stay tuned to Raccoon Valley Radio for results throughout the season.
