The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met yesterday for their second meeting of the week.
However, since only two Supervisors were in attendance they did not have a quorum to be able to make a decision on the issue that was on the Agenda.
Dr. Steve Bascom was there to discuss with the board the reasoning behind the increase in cost for the medical examiner fees and for approval.
Jerome Caraher, Supervisor over District 1, stated that they would be unable to make a decision today however the Doctor could go ahead and discuss the reasoning.
Dr. Bascom stated that the increase was due to the amount of time it takes as the county coroner and that his job entails determining the cause of death and the nature of death, which are two separate things.
Dr. Bascom also mentioned that it can take usually up to 3 hours to conduct a death investigation and usually it is on-going. He also mentioned that he and his colleague were tied to the county 24 hours a day and unable to leave due to this.
Clifford Carney, Supervisor over District 2 stated that they could look into other individuals being able to perform such duties and they would discuss the rate increase and other options at the next meeting.
Next, Guthrie Center resident and Veteran, Bill Wagner, brought before the Supervisors present his concern about the freedom rock that the Arts Council is wanting in Guthrie Center. Caraher informed Wagner that this was not a Board decision.
