Greene County was a 13-11 high school baseball non-conference winner over Class 2A seventh ranked Ogden on Tuesday night at Allensworth Field in Jefferson. The win improved Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams to 12-15 while Coach Dick Smith’s Bulldogs fell to 20-8 overall.
Ogden led 6-2 before the Rams pulled to within 6-4 at the end of the third inning. Greene County scored eight times in the fifth and put another run on the board in the sixth for a lead of 13-6, but the Bulldogs weren’t done. They scored five times in the seventh to make it close including a two-run home run by Preston Church. Senior Reed Ostrander picked up the save by retiring the only batter he faced. Senior Alex Gordon was the winning pitcher with 3-1/3 innings of relief in place of sophomore starter Dylan McConnell.
Greene County had 12 hits to 10 for Ogden. Ostrander had a double, two singles, and four runs batted in while junior T. J. Lint and senior Tory Beger each singled twice and drove in two runs. Sophomore Riah Nelsen had a pair of doubles while Gordon added two singles and sophomore Alex Rasmussen had a single and two RBI.
The Rams had just one error while the Bulldogs had four errors and 10 hits.
Ogden is at home tonight with Class 3A number 10 ADM (Adel) while the Rams host South Hamilton on KG98 in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference makeup game at 7:30 p.m. at Allensworth Field.
