The track and field squads from Greene County High School were in the April 25 Boone Classic. Algona won both teams titles. The Bulldogs scored 96 points to claim the boys’ title with the Rams and Boone tied for second with 52 points. Webster City had 44 and Denison-Schleswig scored 16. The Algona girls had 72 points with 67 for WC, 52 by Boone, 42 for the Rams, and 39 points by D-S.
Each Greene County team had five combined victories on the night. Junior Kate Sandage won the 100 meter hurdles race for girls in 16.79 seconds and junior Allison Higgins won the 1,500 meter run in 5:24.16, a personal best time. Higgins was also second in the 3,000 meters in a PR time of 11:15.16. The Rams won the 4 x 400 meter relay for boys in a season best time of 3:34.54 with senior Andrew Marshall, sophomore JC Weitl, senior Nick Benson, and senior Jake Christensen. The other two boys’ wins for the Rams were by juniors Nick Brown and Roman Phillips. Brown won the 400 meter low hurdles race in a career best time of 58.62 seconds and Phillips took the 100 meter dash title in 11.60 seconds.
