The Cyclists of Greene will be starting its third annual full moon bike rides this Friday night.
A tradition that started in 1989, organizer Chuck Offenburger says they decided to bring it back two years ago. Bicycle enthusiasts will gather at the Raccoon River Valley Trailhead in Jefferson around 8:30pm and will ride for eight miles to Cooper and ride back under a full moon.
He points out that depending on weather, there is about 35 people who take to the trail and ride bicycles under the twilight of a full moon. Offenburger describes what happens at the end of each bike ride during the six-month event.
“And we have a little gathering in the Depot, once we get back to Jefferson, and have some munchies and good conversation. There’s no charge to come, you don’t have to bring anything except if you become a regular on this at some point during the summer on one of those full moon nights we’ll expect you to provide the treats.”
Offenburger notes that this is for anyone of any skill set, it’s just an excuse to enjoy getting healthy and see what the trail is like at night.
