The Dallas County Conservation Board is working to restore the Myers Cemetery and is looking for a few sets of extra hands.
The one acre cemetery is the final resting place for several early Dallas County settlers, including a former slave who cooked for General Sherman’s army during the march across Georgia.
The cemetery is in poor condition and volunteers will help clean and repair gravestones, clear trees and brush and help erect a fence around the area.
The project is a joint effort between the conservation board the Dallas County Genealogy Society and the Dallas County Historic Preservation Commission.
The restoration will take place from 9am-4pm Friday and Saturday May 17th and 18th at the cemetery located across from the Voas Nature Area west of Minburn.
Anyone interested in helping out is asked to call 465-3577 or stop by the Forest Park Museum.
