Even though the first day of spring is less than two weeks away, there is a lingering issue of black ice.

As temperatures warm up during the day and melt the snow, it will freeze back over at night creating areas of black ice.

Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert reports that there have been six one vehicle accidents due to black ice conditions since Sunday.  He says the majority of accidents have had reports of property damage due to the vehicles sliding into fences.

Sheriff Haupert suggests to the public to drive to the weather conditions.

“I would just ask that if the road conditions look favorable for driving slower, then please do so.”

He notes that black ice is a serious issue and people need to take it seriously.

“We’ve still got many vehicles that are doing speed limit or more on ice and snow covered roads.  It’s just not a safe thing to do.”

Haupert wants to remind you to drive defensively, look out for the other guy and hopefully no one will get hurt.
