When one of the questions prior to kickoff of a high school football game has to do with which team is more youthful, it’s likely the teams have struggled to find consistency. That’s the case when 1-5 Clarinda meets 2-4 Greene County at Linduska Field on Oct. 5. Clarinda starts just two seniors on offense and three on defense. The only victory to this point of the season for the Cardinals came over winless Clarinda Academy. The Rams are a bit more senior oriented with four seniors starting on offense and six on defense. The Rams are especially youthful in the offensive line where they are expected to start a junior, three sophomores, and a freshman vs. Clarinda. Greene County has wins over Red Oak and Roland-Story, teams with three victories between them.
The winner on Friday night will even their Class 2A District 8 record at 2-2 while the losing team will fall to 1-3 in district play. The winning team will also strengthen their playoff chances as four of the seven programs in the district will advance to postseason play. Undefeated Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) and OA-BCIG (Ida Grove) meet on Friday night with the winner staying unbeaten in district play. After those two teams, the third and fourth spots in the district appear to be up for grabs between Shenandoah, Red Oak, Clarinda, and Greene County.
Kickoff between the Rams and Cardinals is at 7 p.m. with coverage on KG98 beginning at 6 p.m.
