The Dallas County Conservation Board is hosting another hunter education course this week.
According to Iowa law all hunters, both residents and non-residents, born after January 1st of 1972 must pass a hunter education course in order to get their hunting license. Museum Curator Pete Malmberg says a variety of topics will be covered during the course, such as wildlife management, conservation laws, safe gun handling and hunter ethics and responsibilities.
Malmberg says they always try to remind hunters that once you press that trigger, there’s no going back so it’s important to know what you’re doing. Participants must be at least 11 years old to attend the course, though hunting licenses will not be issued until their 12th birthday.
The class will take place Thursday and Saturday from 8am-4pm at the Forest Park Museum in Perry. Participants will need to attend both sessions of the course in order to obtain credit. There is no cost to attend.
