The Greene County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday.
At the meeting, a public hearing was held in regards to Prestage Farms’ proposed confinement feeding operation in Washington Township. Board Chair Mary Jane Fields reported that all the Supervisors have looked at the site and concluded that it would result in too many hogs too close to the city of Rippey. A dozen individuals addressed the board with concerns about air quality, water quality and property values. Roger Norgren requested the board review matrix scores in question. The Supervisors then considered each of the scores and denied a total of 50 points, bringing the total score below the minimum number of 440 points needed for approval. The board then voted to recommend the Department of Natural Resources deny the permit.
The board also appointed Sandy Miner to the Region 12 Housing Authority Executive Board, accepted the Recorder’s report of fees for August and tabled the appointment of a chief deputy for the Greene County Sheriff’s office.
