Governor Terry Branstad, Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds are stopping in Jefferson today to discuss their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, or STEM, initiative.
The pair are holding a series of community discussions across the state to get public input on educational and economic development through STEM.
Retired Perry Schools Superintendent and current City Councilman Dr. Randy McCaulley serves on the STEM Advisory Council and says the goal is to teach students about these crucial fields.
“The aim is to improve achievement and inspire interest among pre-k through 12th grade students” says McCaulley.
Those on the advisory council are helping to implement a variety of programs throughout the state that will improve proficiency in these areas and get students interested in such careers.
All parents, grandparents, educators, business and civic leaders, legislators and residents are encouraged to join Governor Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Reynolds and share their thoughts.
The event takes place at 9am in the Greene County Community Center and is open to the public.
