The Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306 is hosting their first Greene County Heroes Dinner tonight.
The event is designed to honor all local heroes who help make our world a better place.
The lodge has designated September 9th through 15th Elks Patriotism Week. Exalted Ruler Eldon Cunningham says “we thought it was fitting to choose the anniversary of 9/11 to honor our own Greene County heroes”. He adds that they’re inviting veterans, guard and reserve personnel, firefighters, law enforcement, and emergency medical technicians to be their guests for an evening in honor of those who have served and are serving to make Greene County a safe place to live.
The event begins at 6pm with a social time, followed by a free meal for the heroes and their spouses, along with the singing of the National Anthem, a program featuring retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major Gary Barrett of Newton and Taps by Wayne Lautner.
